The B2 level corresponds to independent users of the language, meaning that a person at this level can communicate fluently and naturally with native speakers. It is important to remember that the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFRL) is a system that defines and explains different levels of spoken and written expression and comprehension for languages such as English. It consists of six levels divided into three main categories: A — basic user, B — independent user, and C — proficient user. Each category is further divided into two sublevels: 1 and 2.

Skills at Level B2

  • He/she can understand the main ideas of complex texts on both concrete and abstract topics, including technical discussions in their field of specialization.

  • He/she can interact with a degree of fluency and spontaneity that makes regular communication with native speakers possible without strain for either party.

  • He/she can produce clear, detailed text on a wide range of subjects and explain a viewpoint on a topical issue, giving the advantages and disadvantages of various options.
